Many images and photos are large in size, like those straight from a camera or smartphone. Before uploading them to one of your web pages, resize them to the size you want them on your website (other than the slide show, which automatically resizes images), and then you can upload them. That way they'll load much faster and take up less space. You can use most any image editing program for this purpose.

You can use many of these programs to overlay text on images as well.

Pixlr X is a free online image editor you can use in most any browser.

To resize an image in Pixlr X after uploading,

  1. In the side menu, click the Arrange icon.
  2. Click RESIZE IMAGE.
  3. Enter the new dimensions. When you enter the width, it will automatically change the height to keep proportions correct, and vice-versa.
  4. Click APPLY.

Another editor to try is Picfont.
