Many images and photos are large in size, like those straight from a camera or smartphone. Before uploading them to one of your web pages, you need to use an image editor to resize them to the size you want them on your website (other than the slide show, which automatically resizes images), and then you can upload them. That way they'll load much faster and take up less space. You can use most any image editing program for this purpose.

You can use many of these programs to overlay text on images as well.

Pixlr is an easy to use online image editor that you don't have to download, it works on both Windows PCs and Macs, and it's free.

Here is what their various versions do:
Pixlr Editor: Very similar to Photoshop and does text overlays
Pixlr Express: Extremely easy to use but no text overlays
Pixlr-o-matic: Retro vintage effects (also available as an app for Android and Apple devices)

Another simple option for resizing, adding text, and some fun badge shapes, is Picfont.
