Video Producer gives you the ability to record, edit, tag and share video with your coaches, team and swimmers all in a controlled and secure environment. Tap  > Video Producer to access.


TU's Coaching Tools can import videos recorded with other devices or apps such as Coach’s Eye or Hudl.

Best Practice: Although you can record video in Mobile Coaching Tools using your mobile device, the camera lacks optical zoom capability. Record video with an external camcorder or camera so you can really zoom in and then import into Coaching Tools for much better footage.

  1. Tap Import in the upper right.

  2. If you get a dialog saying "MainSet" Would Like to Access Your Photos, tap OK.
  3. Tap your desired video.

  4. Use the controls to review and play/pause at the bottom to make sure it’s the one you want.
  5. Drag the white vertical bar to move to any point in the video (a.k.a. “scrub”).
  6. Drag the arrows on the right and left of the video timeline to change where the video starts and ends. Trim controls for video
  7. Tap Use to import, or < Back to choose another video.
  8. You can now edit the video and upload it to for others to view.


  1. Tap > Video Producer.
  2. You can tie a video to the general bucket, a swim meet, a practice or one or more swimmers.
    1. If you tap anything but GENERAL, select one or more swimmers (then tap DONE), a swim meet, or practice to attach the video to. Attach a video to a swimmer
    2. If you choose Swim Meet, you must choose a meet where today is part of the meet date(s) in order to tie videos to events and swimmers. See next section, Record Swim Meet.
  3. Pick your recording frame rate. NORMAL records in the highest resolution, SLO-MO (the default) has the smoothest slow motion, and ECONOMY takes the least amount of space. Both NORMAL and ECONOMY have bright footage. See our video recording frame rate article for more info.
  4. if you would like a delayed start to the video, tap OFF on the right and select a 3 second or 10 second delay.
  5. Tap the red record button and record your video.

  6. Once completed tap the record button again to stop.
  7. Tap SAVE in the upper right (which lets you edit the video) or the video thumbnail at the bottom. You can now edit the video and attributes of the video (which lets you edit the video properties).

Record Swim Meet

Mobile Coaching Tools let you not only tie a video recording to a swim meet, but you can also tie it to specific swimmers, heats and lanes. Tap a button to advance to the next heat and keep going. Note this only works when a meet is in SwimOffice and is a TouchPad meet or has an ev3 file attached. These additional tools are available when recording swim meet videos.

  1. In OnDeck, tap Menu > Coaching Tools > Video Producer.
  2. Tap Swim Meet.
  3. Tap a swim meet that is happening today. (If you pick a past meet, you will not be able to tie it to events and swimmers.)
  4. If there are unseeded swimmers in the current event and heat (or no swimmers in the event), a dialog will alert you and you can tap Setup to seed them, or Later to skip.

    1. Tap ---/-- in the H/L column to assign each swimmer to a heat and lane. This works just like the Run Meet function in OnDeck.
    2. Tap SAVE when finished, then tap < in the upper left twice to return to the video recorder.
  5. The controls on the right will start on event 1, heat 1, all lanes. If swimmers are assigned to this event, you will see their names at the top.
  6. The following controls are available.

    • Tap the green E button to advance to the next event.
    • Tap the blue H button to advance to the next heat. If swimmers are assigned to this heat, you will see their names at the top.
    • Tap the brown All lanes button to enter a specific lane, DONE. You will then see only the swimmer's name assigned to that lane, if any.

    • Tap to open a menu where you can directly enter the event #, heat #, lane #, Undo the last action, and tap Assignments to seed swimmers (see next step).

  7. After recording an event using the red record button at the bottom, use controls on the side to move to the next event or heat and keep recording videos.
  8. When you have recorded the last video, tap FINISH in the upper right.
  9. If you want to edit any of the videos,
    1. Tap the meet name.
    2. Tap the desired video to edit.
    3. Make any changes and tap SAVE. See Edit Video below for more info.

  10. You can tap UPLOAD while editing a video, or select one or more from the list and tap UPLOAD. The video(s) will then be visible to your team (depending on how you set the visibility level for each video).
  11. Members can click the Videos tab in their profile and see videos in which they were tagged in both the General, Swim Meets and Practices tabs.

Edit Video

  1. Tap the Play button to view and edit the video. This works pretty much like Apple’s built-in video editor.

  2. The Play button at the bottom toggles between play and pause.
  3. Drag the white vertical bar to move to any point in the video (a.k.a. “scrub”).
  4. Drag the arrows on the right and left of the video timeline to change where the video starts and ends. Tap Play to switch back to Move mode.

  5. Drag the lower bars to specify a slow motion portion. You can vary the speed of the slow motion portion with one of the three SLOMO SPEED options in the lower right.

  6. When you are ready, tap TRIM in the upper right (or SAVE if you didn't trim the video). You can then either tap Create new video to preserve the original one, or Replace original video.

  7. Tap OK once it saves, then tap < BACK in the upper left to edit the video properties.

  1. The default Visibility of the video is the entire Team. Tap that drop down to switch to Swimmers (only the swimmers tagged, plus coaches), or Coaches only.
  2. You may optionally specify a Stroke for this video and add Notes.
  3. Tap (+) by Swimmers to attach the video to more of them.
  4. At the bottom you can Upload the video to the cloud, or Delete it.
  5. Tap Upload. It will take a several moments depending on your connection speed.

  6. Once it finishes, MainSet allows you to delete the video from your device to save space. Keep in mind that once you delete a video, you can no longer edit it.
  7. You will now see the video(s) you recorded categorized in the Local Videos, General, Swimmers, Swim Meets or Practices tabs.

Local Videos

This gives the option of viewing Pending Uploads (those you have recorded on this device but not yet uploaded to the cloud) and Uploaded (those you uploaded to the cloud but have not deleted from your device). From there you can select categories with the tabs at the top.

In the Video Library you can select categories of General, Swimmers, Swim Meets, and Practices. Pick one, and then you can select one the categories to which you have tagged videos and view them.

When logged into your TU website you can view all the videos you have uploaded in the Video Library tab with the same categories as in the mobile app.

You may click Upload in the upper right to upload new videos just like in the mobile app. Once uploaded they will be visible in both the web and mobile apps.
